My Other Job

All of you know that I'm a full time mom, but some of you may not know that I'm a part time professor as well. I teach class at the local junior college here in town Blinn College
I teach one class a week. It's an introduction to Special Education. It's right up my ally. That's the area I got my Masters in and I am very passionate about sharing my love of teaching with others. I REALLY REALLY enjoy it- except for this time of year. It's the end of the semester and I have TONS to grade. Some you you teachers can feel my pain. But when I was a teacher- I never GRADED!!!!! What how did I do that?
Well, I taught 3 and 4 year olds how to toilet. Not much grading there. I also taught them colors, shapes and how to join a group of friends in play. Still no grading there. If you are not familiar with 3 and 4 year olds- most CAN'T write yet. And I taught ones that were developmentally behind- so no writing. No grading!
The good news is that I only have one class left and then the final. But they all have a major project to turn in, the last test I was supposed to grade, the pre/post test and a minor project left to grade. YIKES!
So if you don't get many updates in the next two weeks (Grades are due the 12th for me!) Just think of me trying to grade papers and projects while Gianna sleeps.

I hate grading. That was one of the worst parts of teaching English for me!

Why don't you just come up with a grade key (I think the kids these days call this a "rubric") for the test and pay a kid say $3 an hour to apply it, i.e. grade the papers for you? Spot check the results to make sure the kid accurately applied the rubric. If you spend the time crafting the test so that there isn't really a chance for "half points," a dog with a note (or in this case, a kid) should be able to grade it and you will have more time to play with Gianna! Of course, when she gets older (you should probably wait until she can read, but I suppose that this isn't a requirement necessarily), you can pay Gianna the $3 and spend your time playing Age of Empires III.

I'm procrastinating to reply.
I do use a rubric, and yes it has saved me a great amount of time, but I don't like scantrons and do all of the grading by hand. So I guess I could get over the scantron thing, but I think they do so much better when they can write some info too!
