A Decade

No matter how you say it 10 is a lot.
Do you remember what you were doing 10 years ago today?
My mom and my mother in law probably do. I know my husband remembers. I know because I reminded him this morning after we were awakened at 1:10 by a little cry.
I am very blessed to say that 10 years ago I said "I do" to the love of my life. No person could be better for me than my dear sweet husband.
This is our song.

All by myself
My Mom left us yesterday. :( And now I'm all by myself with John of course. I'm not really ready for total all by myself yet!!!!
I did however make it to the doctor with the two youngest Ludlows all by myself! I told my mom- 2 out of three isn't too bad! I have yet to figure out how to make it to the grocery store with all of them without her help. (Thank goodness for friends and meals!)

I'm Tired!
The girls are on their way to 4 weeks old. Now four weeks is not one month. It seems like it should be, but somehow it's fuzzy math. Like when you're pregnant for 9 months but it's really 40 weeks. So the time continuum aside the girls are 4 weeks old tomorrow.
We are still waking them up to feed them, but they are starting to squeak when it's been about 3 hours and time to nurse again. It's much nicer to have them be awake than to try to wake them up to eat!

I've decided...
I've decided that carpet is wonderful when you have a baby that is learning how to crawl.
It is pretty gross when you have a 2 year old potty training.

What's in a name?
You know that Gianna Joy means God is gracious. That name was special to us because we liked the meaning. It fit for us after our struggle with infertility to be reminded of Joy to us.
Now in choosing the girl's names we wanted something similar- we wanted it to have a meaning for us.
We found out that we were in fact having two girls the name race was on.
John and I both loved Hannah. Obvious reasons- she is the one most identified with the struggle of infertility in the Bible. But Hannah just wasn't it for us.. John personally did not want a typical name. I liked a more traditional name!
So on to Elizabeth we went. This was my pick. I sold John on it when I found the meaning of it:
God's promise
It fit. We had God's promise with us.
Ann is a tribute to both of our mothers. Ann is my mothers middle name and Ann is part of John mom's first name.
Interestingly- Elizabeth was the mother of John the Baptist, another woman who struggled with infertility and Gianna's name is the female version of John in Italy.
Now we move to Cosette.
Marie is in honor of my Granny.
Have you seen the movie Les Mis? John and I saw it early in our marriage and we were struck by it's story of redemption, hope and grace. Now this video doesn't have Cosette in it, but it is really why we loved the movie.
Start about 2:15 It's a few minutes, but worth it!

2 Weeks!
We had our 2 week appointment today. The girls have gained their birth weight back and we had to get the PKU test done.
Now I'm not one to brag, but the doctor said that the girls were doing exceptionally well.
We are getting used to being sleep deprived, but forgetting to take pictures.
I'll take some today and try to post them tomorrow.
But Cosette, well Cosette has a "problem." Let's just say we have to treat it with some prune juice.
I'll let you know how that one turns out!
2 weeks, yet it seems like FOREVER!!!!! 2 weeks and it's just a blink of the eye. How can it be both at the same time? I don't know, but that seems to be the way with kids everywhere. It seems like forever when your in the middle of it, but looking back it was just a moment. At least that's what I tell myself at 3 am every morning! :)

Why they say new mommies should stay home for a while...
Most moms I know have a story. A good story. A story about one time when your child did_______ and embarrassed/humiliated/mortified/confused/angered/ and down right made you wonder what you did wrong in the parenting world that life had to come and serve you up some "fun."
My moment was Friday. The place was Target.
Now remember, I have just given birth about a week previously and sometimes I'm not altogether with it. Like that day. I brought the diaper bag. See good Mommy. But guess what- it's the babies diaper bag. So no extra snack, no right sized diapers for Gianna, no little toys to distract her.
We went to CVS without incident and then headed over to Target. I needed some essentials.
We made a stop at the Starbucks because I did promise Gianna that I would get her a drink (see last paragraph- I forgot hers.) I decided to treat my self and get a caffeinated drink. One every once in a while won't cause permanent damage right?
So we were happy. My parents went in different directions as we all needed something different at Target. We don't tend to shop together in our family. I'm pretty sure my dad was way more interested in anything other than looking at nursing tanks with me. So Gianna and I get finished and go across the isle to look for jammies for her. She had outgrown a few and needed some new ones.
Of course they were not where they were a few weeks ago. Of course we had to look all over the kids section to find them. And of course my phone range with an important call from the breast feeding nurse that I really needed to talk to and took all of my attention. My dad came back from his quest and he and Gianna and I looked at jammies.
My dad pointed at Gianna.
And then it happened. Gianna started digging- in- her- pants.
In the middle of the childrens clothes.
While I was on the phone.
And distracted.
I quickly hang up. I don't even remember if I did it nicely. I look closly at Gianna and let out at loud- "YUCKY"
That's right folks. She did it. IN THE MIDDLE OF TARGET!!!!!!!
I scoop her up, half turn to tell my dad what had happened. Headed towards the front of the store. Caught my mom's eye, told her what had happened. And headed towards the car. I carried her facing forward so as not to get any of the poo on me. She started to wail. The kind that makes EVERYONE turn and look who is abusing their child. I just kept on walking. No turning around. No looks to say, "Hey she's two. Who doesn't cry?" Nope- all business. With just one goal in mind- Make it to the car.
I break down and turn her around and she hugs me tight. I wince at the thought of what is touching me at the moment and get caught up I almost don't hear the college students trying to flag me down after Gianna has lost a shoe. I smile gracefully- at least I hope I did- and run/walk the rest of the way to the car.
Well praise the Lord, in my nesting I had filled up the car emergency diaper changer with a diaper and a few wipes. I even had put a couple of little ones in there too. I may be putting some shine on that super mommy star after all. I calm down a little bit and we clean up. Go inside wash hands and find the grands.
By now, her drink is now gone. She tilts it up and keeps walking. She trips over her shoes and gets a bloddy lip. To help her feel better I let her drink some of my drink which is now just ice water ans she feels better.
Not three steps later, the lid pops off and spills 99% of the ice on the ground. Grandpa goes to tell someone.
Do we give up and go home? Not us. We walk to the furthest corner of the store to look at dad/Grandpa's fan and then walk all the way back up to the front to check out. We head striaght home after that.
And that my dear friends is why they tell new mommies to stay home for the first few weeks.

400!
What do you know- this is my 400th post on the blog! Amazing!
Well John actually started it about 3 years ago and then after Gianna was born it was a great outlet for me to keep my sanity, share some funny stuff and let the grandparents keep up with Gianna.
Now there are two more little girls that need keeping up with so I'm sure to have a few more posts.

Update
Snug as a bug together in the Moses basket
Cosette left
Elizabeth right
Grandpa Miller and Cosette
Granny and Gianna and Cosette
We are doing well and recovering great. I'm actually doing very well. I decided that it's partly due to the vaginal birth and not a c-section, but also due to the fact that the girls were not in the hospital as long as Gianna was. There is something about hospitals that is emotionally and physically draining. Also, John and I both think that having second babies as twins rather than our first go around is a little easier. Well, for right now! :) John says at least this time he knows how to hold a newborn!
We went to the doctor yesterday and they have both gained an ounce and both dropped more levels of biliruben.

A week old!
Well, it's been a while since we posted. But the girls are a week old today!
We went to the doctor on Sunday (did you know they had Sunday hours? I didn't) Our doctor in the hospital wanted us to go to check out their weight and jaundice levels.
Elizabeth had lost more than 10% and she had really high levels, so they wanted us to go to the hospital to have them do photo therapy. We had to spend the night and got checked in the morning. How they check is by taking a whole lot of blood from the foot. Not so fun to watch your little tiny baby get poked, squeezed, and messed with when you have little sleep. Not to mention that you might be a little post pardum and have some excess hormones with a side of emotions.

Elizabeth

Cosette
We had to stay Sunday through Tuesday. By Tuesday morning Elizabeth had gained an ounce and a lot lower level of jaundice! So praise the Lord we got to go home!

Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD, the fruit of the womb a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children of one’s youth. Blessed is the man who fills his quiver with them!
- Psalms 127:3-5
People told me I forgot the put the middle names....I knew them just forgot to type them
