You know that Gianna Joy means God is gracious. That name was special to us because we liked the meaning. It fit for us after our struggle with infertility to be reminded of Joy to us.
Now in choosing the girl's names we wanted something similar- we wanted it to have a meaning for us.
We found out that we were in fact having two girls the name race was on.
John and I both loved Hannah. Obvious reasons- she is the one most identified with the struggle of infertility in the Bible. But Hannah just wasn't it for us.. John personally did not want a typical name. I liked a more traditional name!
So on to Elizabeth we went. This was my pick. I sold John on it when I found the meaning of it:
God's promise
It fit. We had God's promise with us.
Ann is a tribute to both of our mothers. Ann is my mothers middle name and Ann is part of John mom's first name.
Interestingly- Elizabeth was the mother of John the Baptist, another woman who struggled with infertility and Gianna's name is the female version of John in Italy.
Now we move to Cosette.
Marie is in honor of my Granny.
Have you seen the movie Les Mis? John and I saw it early in our marriage and we were struck by it's story of redemption, hope and grace. Now this video doesn't have Cosette in it, but it is really why we loved the movie.
Start about 2:15 It's a few minutes, but worth it!

I wondered if Cossette was any relation to the movie Les Mis! Thanks for sharing the stories of the names. I always love hearing about those!
